Dorothea A. (Krome) Peck

Dorothea Augusta (Krome) Peck, 90, of Upton, died peacefully on Monday, June 27, 2005. She was the wife of Gilbert A. Peck. They celebrated 67 years of marriage and her 90th birthday last September.

Mrs. Peck was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the only child of German immigrants Carl and Wilhelmina Krome, from Bremen and Bremerhaven, Germany. She moved to Laurelton, New York and graduated from Jamaica High School and Brown's Business School in Jamaica, New York, and was an active member of the Tau Gamma Sorority. Mrs. Peck worked as a secretary in the home office of Seaboard Commercial Corp where she met her future husband, who was the mail boy at the time. She also worked at Buckley and Horton Real Estate Management Company, Jamaica, New York. After the birth of her first child, she retired from business to nurture and care for her family and home.

Mr. and Mrs. Peck were married in September 1937 in Hollis, New York, and later settled in Baldwin, Long Island, New York, with their two children. Over the course of her lifetime, Dorothea and her family also lived in Syracuse, New York; Indianapolis, Indiana; Oakland, New Jersey; and Phoenix, Arizona; before joining her daughter and family in Upton in 1987.

Mrs. Peck was an active member of the United Parish of Upton where she served on the Diaconate Board for many years. She was an ordained deacon in the Presbyterian Church since the 1950's. Mrs. Peck was also a member of the Upton Historical Society and the Upton Woman's Club. She assisted in the administrative duties of The Town Crier since its inception in 1993.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Peck leaves her son Gilbert Carl Peck and his wife Mary Anne of Gainesville, Florida; her daughter Marilyn (Peck) Holman and her husband Alfred Holman, founders of the Upton and Mendon Town Crier, of Upton; three grandchildren, Matthew Peck and Laura (Peck) Graetz and her husband Randy of Gainesville, and Andrew Holman of Upton; two great grandchildren, John and Katie Graetz of Gainesville; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 1.
Burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton.

Calling hours Thursday, June 30 from 4 to 7 pm.
