Cynthia R. Seitz

July 22, 1930 — June 18, 2015

Cynthia R. (Sweet) Seitz, 84, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2015 after a 22-year struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Cynthia was the daughter of Robert K. Sweet Sr., and Ruth A. (Henry) Sweet.

Married in 1951 to James B. Seitz, who passed away in 2007, Cynthia spent most of her life in Upton before moving to Petersham in 2004. Together they have four sons and their spouses, James and Sharon of Upton, Robert and Sherry of Fall River, and Michael and Benjamin of Petersham; and two daughters and their spouses, Cynthia and Henri St. Louis of RI, and Donna and Dennis Bishop of Douglas. They enjoyed 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, with one on the way. She also leaves behind her sister, Dorothy Goding of SC and her brother Robert K. Sweet Jr. and his wife Betty of NH.

Cynthia lived a quiet yet exceptional life, graduating from Grafton High School in 1948 and completing her nursing degree at Worcester Memorial Hospital in 1952. She worked as an RN at Worcester Memorial Hospital and as a private nurse. In 1963, her right arm was amputated as a result of bone cancer. Her medical donation to Mass General Hospital enabled considerable strides in the research and development of artificial limbs.

Never slowing down, and always thinking positively, Cynthia involved herself in many charitable organizations within her community and church. She was a founding member of the Upton Bloomer girls, a long standing member and former chair of the Mendon-Upton school committee, and held several leadership positions at the United Methodist Church and then the United Parish of Upton when the two churches merged. She sang in the choir, was a delegate to the Annual Conference, and made sure six school lunches were packed, and that dinner was on the table for her hard working husband! During all this, she continued her career as an RN at Knowlton Manor Nursing Home, and later served as school nurse at Miscoe Hill Middle School in Mendon. Cynthia and Jim loved to travel together, and when they retired enjoyed their summers camping in Bristol, NH. She is considered by many "a great lady" and will be sorely missed.

Memorial donations may be made to the United Parish Memorial Fund, Box 382, Upton 01568.
