Beautiful Mom - Elizabeth Palumbo passed away peacefully surrounded by her children.
Elizabeth loved spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren. She cheered them on in their academic and sports endeavors and in establishing and growing their own families. Mom was very gracious with everyone she met. Always starting from the premise that everyone is good and has goodness inside. She cherished and was cherished by her long-standing friends and neighbors in Upton where she resided for over 65 years.
She loved nothing more than preparing a big Sunday meal for the family and their friends and inviting in the neighbors who happened by to join in. She was energized by these weekend gatherings. Her home cooking and knack for conversation provided all with a respite from the coming work week ahead.
Elizabeth was an avid sports fan following both the Celtics and the Red Sox. She was also a talented softball and volleyball player in her own right on the playing fields of Upton. She took to each day of her life with wonderful sense of humor, an irrepressible sense of purpose and a ready smile.
Elizabeth was a manager at Waters Corporation for over 20 years Her colleagues often remarked that she was a force of nature at work. Tireless and fully dedicated. She loved the close-knit group of friends that she worked with at Waters and often reminisced about those folks and fond memories of their times together. Prior to her work with Waters Corporation, she managed local supermarkets including Big D, Big G and Rico's where she was also beloved by her colleagues. After retirement, never content to rest, she enjoyed working at Dick Kelly’s Farmstand on Rte 140 in Upton. As she put it, she loved to teach each summer crop of fresh staff and banter with customers. She began her career and developed what became vast skills in Italian style cooking as a teenager after school at Toscano's Italian Market in Worcester where she learned from her mentors Anna M. (Toscano) and Gasper M. "Scoops" Oliveri.
She was predeceased by siblings Ben, John and Dorothy. She is survived by her four children: eldest son Frank and his daughters Casey and Jodi, Jeanne and her husband Frank Caccavelli and their children Francis and Isabella, John and his wife Gai and their children Anne and Maxmilian and Lisa and her husband Kevin Oxley.
All are welcome to attend calling hours from 4:30 to 6:30 on Sunday, May 31, in the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton.
Her funeral service and burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton, will be held privately with her family.
