Ernest B. "Babe" Porter, Jr., 67, a lifelong resident of Upton, died at home early Tuesday, December 24, 2013, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Kathleen A. (Chapin) Porter.
Babe was born in Milford, MA, a son of the late Ernest and Helen (Ford) Porter. He was a 1964 graduate of Nipmuc Regional High School and attended the University of Central Missouri. He was a counterintelligence agent with the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sgt., and then worked as a senior maintenance worker for the Mass. Turnpike Authority for 31 years, retiring a few years ago.
A member of the Marshall-Leland American Legion Post in Upton and the Eastham Elks, he loved fishing and especially enjoyed trips to Cape Cod. He had been an EMT and volunteer firefighter with the Upton Fire Company for several years. Babe will be remembered by friends and family as loyal and loving with a tender heart.
In addition to his wife of 36 years, he leaves three sons, John J. Porter and his wife Lori of Hopedale, Ernest B. Porter III of Uxbridge, and Erik M. Porter of Plymouth; a daughter, Lori-Beth Antaya and her husband Joseph of Upton; two brothers, John F. Porter, Sr. of Upton, and James Porter and his wife Bunny of Milford; a sister, Elaine Porter of Upton; and five grandchildren, Andrew and Caroline Porter of Hopedale, and Brianna, Lora, and J.D. Antaya of Upton. He was also the brother of the late Janet and Richard Porter.

Service Details
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 28,
from the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main St., Upton,
with a funeral mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church,
151 Mendon St., Upton.
Following cremation, burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, December 27, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
