George L. Hodgdon, 78, of Upton, died Thursday evening, July 25, 2013, in MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham after an illness and surrounded by family. His wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Gorman) Hodgdon, died in 2008.
Mr. Hodgdon was born in Framingham, a son of the late Roy and Gracie (Stowell) Hodgdon. He grew up in Framingham, served an enlistment with the U.S. Army, and had lived in Hopkinton before coming to Upton in 1978. He was a safety supervisor with Avery Dennison of Framingham for 38 years until retiring several years ago.
An avid outdoorsman, George enjoyed hunting and gardening. His carpentry skills were used to build several homes for himself and other family members. A talented musician who sang and played the guitar and piano, he entertained many with the country music band Phase II. He also was active in horseshoe and pool leagues.
He leaves two daughters, Deborah Pierce and her husband Richard D. Pierce, Jr of Melbourne, FL, and Darlene Gormally and her husband Thomas of Southbridge; one son, George L. "Lenny" Hodgdon, Jr of Upton; three sisters, Barbara Fenner and her husband John of Enfield, CT, Gwen Collins of Framingham, and Phyllis Doran and her husband Brendon of Framingham; a brother, Donald Hodgdon and his wife Betty of FL; his companion, Dorothy Heywood of Providence, RI; six grandchildren, Julie McCabe of Webster, Tiffany Lynn Michon of NC, Christopher George Cavaliere of Southbridge, and Michaela Barsotti, and Alison and Sarah Hodgdon, all of Bellingham; a great-grandson, Logan Cartier of Southbridge; and another great-grandchild on the way. He was also the brother of the late Gordon Hodgdon.
Service Details
Following cremation, memorial calling hours will be held Friday, August 2,
from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton.
A memorial service in the funeral home will follow at 4 p.m.
