James E. “Jim” Poor, 89, formerly of Boston and Wayland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Born in Boston, he was the beloved son of the late James and Edith (McWhinney) Poor. Raised and educated in Boston, Jim went on to earn his master’s degree in teaching from Boston University, beginning a lifelong commitment to education.

Outside the classroom, Jim found great joy at the racetrack. He was passionate about drag racing and all forms of car racing, a hobby that brought him countless hours of excitement and camaraderie. Through the racing community, he formed lasting friendships with many who became his extended “family.”
