On July 7, 2026, our family said goodbye to the man who was always there when we needed him. Joseph A. Mandile, Jr., passed away peacefully at home at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Frances, Joe is survived by his son, Paul Mandile and his wife, Lisa, of Milford; his daughter, Janette Harper of South Grafton; his cherished grandchildren, Jake, Aiden, and Bella; his loving sisters, Jeanne, Virginia, Patricia, and Mary-Lou and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John Edward Mandile.
Joe was first and foremost a hard-working devoted family man. Whether he was offering advice, fixing things, or simply being present, his family knew they could always count on him.
Joe was born and raised in Newton to the late Joseph A. Mandile, Sr. and Genevieve (Dowda) Mandile, Joe served four years in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Newport, Rhode Island where he took pride in serving his country, and learning the electrical trade.
For 42 years, Joe worked as a Master Electrician at Dennison/Avery Manufacturing. But to those who knew him, being an electrician wasn't just his profession—it was part of who he was. He was often called "one of the best" buy his peers and colleagues. If something needed fixing, Joe was the first person everyone called. Whether it was a family member, friend, neighbor, or coworker, he never hesitated to lend a hand. He quietly gave his time, shared his knowledge, and found satisfaction in helping others without ever expecting anything in return.
Joe appreciated the simple things in life. He loved fishing, working on puzzles, fly tying, playing horseshoes with his buddies, and taking apart just about anything to see how it worked. He was a gifted storyteller who could captivate a room with his memories, and he genuinely enjoyed sitting and visiting with anyone who stopped by. Whether sharing stories from years gone by or simply catching up, Joe had a way of making people feel welcome and leaving them with a smile. He was quite the character, and "one of kind". He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Ashland, where he formed many lasting friendships while playing billiards.
Above all else, Joe will be remembered for the life he built for his family. He showed his love not through grand gestures, but through the countless things he did for the people around him. His steady presence, generous heart, inner strength, and willingness to help anyone in need will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In accordance with Joe's wishes, a private ceremony will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Upton by his immediate family. There will be no calling hours.
The family would like to thank everyone who offered their love, support, and kindness throughout Joe's illness. Knowing how many lives he touched has brought great comfort during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Upton Fire & EMS Association Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 1012, Upton, MA 01568
