Lawrence Robert Habbel passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14th. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the early 1960’s.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Charlotte, his partner, and best friend in a marriage filled with love and devotion. He was a cherished father to Christine, Steven, and Beth. He was affectionately known as “Bump” to his 7 grandchildren — Jessica, Colleen, Tyler, Paige, Ethan, Jake, and Elise — and his 3 great-grandchildren, Evan, Hannah, and Joe. His sister Barbara and bother David. He also leaves behind other loved ones who held a special place in his heart: Tim, Ginger, Fred, Alex, and Joe.

Larry lived a full and rich life, blessed with the gifts of friendship, a rewarding career, a loving family, and a deep and abiding love for his wife, Charlotte. Together, Larry and Charlotte walked side by side through life, fully committed to making the most of every moment. Their journey was enriched by close friendships, fulfilling careers, travel, and a beautiful retirement in the Outer Banks.

In his youth, Larry was known to friends as “Hobbs,” and basketball was his game — he spent many happy years playing in a men’s pick-up league in Upton, alongside his dear friend, Jack Grady. A true people person, Larry loved meeting people from all walks of life and never missed a chance for a good conversation, making friends everywhere he went. He was a lifelong sports fan, above all a devoted New England Patriots fan and longtime season ticket holder. He gave back to his community by coaching youth hockey, sharing his love of the game with the next generation. In retirement, he found great joy out on his boat, soaking in the open water and the freedom it brought.

Larry and Charlotte cherished many happy evenings playing cards and listening to the oldies with their dear friends Beverly and Jack Grady. Larry will be remembered for his warmth, his loyalty, and his zest for life — a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of everyone he met.

Please join us for a celebration of Larry’s life, on Saturday, August 15th, at the Upton VFW, 15 Milford Street, Upton, MA, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. This will be a casual gathering to share stories, laughter, and food as we celebrate the wonderful man we loved so much.
