Meryle A. Allen, 79, a longtime Upton resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Milford Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles E. “Charlie” Allen, who died in September of 2023.
Born in Boston, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Ann (McNeice) Fisher. She was raised and educated in Millis and was a graduate of Millis High School.
Mrs. Allen was employed for many years as a school bus driver for the Blackstone Valley Technical High School, Upton and Mendon school systems.
In her earlier years she was known as a sports mom while attending all her daughter’s soccer and basketball games, and a scouting mom as an adult leader for boys and girls in Upton. She is a Past President and was very active with the Upton Bloomer Girls for many years, and currently a 23 year member of the Franklin Elks, both where she had and met many friends.
Recently she enjoyed spending every summer at the family cottage in East Falmouth, Cape Cod, especially being with her friends on Menauhant Beach, painting and doing arts and crafts anywhere at any time, and taking many trips to the casinos with Charlie.
Meryle is survived by her two children, Robert Allen of Upton, and Lynne Allen and her husband Marc Waddell of San Diego, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is also predeceased by her sister Susan Scanlon.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Monday, July 22, in the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton.
A committal service will take place at 12:30 P.M. on Tuesday, July 23, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the Massachusetts Special Olympics.
