Clara E. Moroney

Clara Moroney, 88, of Upton, MA, passed away peacefully on the night of August 8th, 2023. Clara was born on April 8th, 1935, in Macon, Georgia, the daughter of Robert Lee Lipscomb and Goldie Setters. Clara was one of 14 children, and spent her childhood living on the mountain. Some of her fondest memories from this time included making mud pies, tap dancing on the porch with her sisters and playing with june bugs on string.

She spent her early years in Georgia, where she then met Francis in 1958. 

He spotted her one day on the swing and after that first look said, “That’s the girl I’m going to marry!” Within just a few short months that wish became their story, and they wed on June 23, 1958. They welcomed their first child, Francis Michael that very next year. Shortly thereafter they decided to continue their adventure back in Francis’ home state of Massachusetts. Following this move they welcomed their three remaining children, Pamela, Susanne and Timothy. 

Clara and Francis spent 40 devoted years together, with a love that was one for books.  Their love has now expanded beyond their 4 children, to include 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. They say when babies are born so are grandmothers and being a grandmother was one of Clara’s greatest joys. She cherished her grandchildren, and always made sure they knew just how loved they were. 

While family was such a big part of Clara’s life, she was also so deeply loved by many friends. She also had an unwavering passion for all types of crafting, those who knew her know there was nothing she couldn’t do! She spent her final days continuing to craft, and reflecting on the special moments of the beautiful life that she built.

Her funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, August 12, in the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main St. Upton.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 P.M. on Friday, August 11, in the funeral home.
