Doris M. Bailey

Doris M. Bailey, 95, of Upton passed away quietly on Monday, November 21, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 25, 1927 in Upton, to the late Joseph Couture and Juliette (Arguin) Couture. In addition to her parents Doris was predeceased by her husband Richard B. Bailey, infant son Richard Bailey and infant daughter Baby Girl Bailey. Also preceding her in death were her brother Paul Couture of Maryland and sister Madeline (Couture) LaBastie of Mendon. 

Doris is survived by her son Robert Bailey of Florida; daughter Rosemary (Bailey/Gay) LeClair and her husband Steven of Upton, son Steven Bailey and his wife Paula of Upton;  5 grandchildren Christina (Gay) Ottman and her companion Richard Ceruolo of Maryland; Brandy (Gay) Bonina of Massachusetts; Shawn Bailey and his wife Amy of Florida; Shane Bailey and his companion Sharon of New York; Jessica (Bailey) Wronski and her husband Edward of Halifax; 7 great-grandchildren Anthony Bonina, Dominic Bonina, Lucas Groehl, Jadon Bailey, Torin Bailey, Parker Wronski and Caleb Wronski. Also survived by 9 sisters, 1 brother and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was a lifelong resident of Upton, she was born on School Street and spent the last 75 years of her life on North Main Street. Doris was a hard-worker her whole life, she was pulled from school at a young age to work the family farm, then managed her own household after being married to her husband who was wounded and disabled in World War II. She helped care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with providing child care to many family members, and neighborhood children.  She enjoyed family parties where she would be one of the first people on the dance floor if she heard polka music playing. She will always be remembered as being a loving, caring, compassionate woman who also could set one in their place with just a stern look. She always instilled in others that family was first and to also remember where you come from.

Her funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, November 28, in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 151 Mendon Street, Upton.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, November 27 in the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton.
