Dr. Meredith L. Rice

Dr. Meredith L. Rice (Jackson) 85, of Upton passed away suddenly on June 4, 2021 in the countryside of Vermont doing one of the things she loved, visiting with family. 

Born August 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Gertrude (Smith) Jackson. She enjoyed the earlier part of her life teaching first grade at The Ball School and then at Memorial Elementary School in Upton.  As if that wasn’t enough fun, she returned to school and obtained her Doctorate in Chiropractic at 54 yrs. old and opened Rice Chiropractic Health Care in Upton 1989; she continued to treat patients up until the time of her passing.  Dr. Rice served on the Board of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society. She was kindheartedly passionate about engaging with her family and friends. She enjoyed country western line dancing, travel, coffee and donuts and would often inspire interesting conversations at length with those around her.

Meredith is preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Clarence Skerry.  

Merry was immensely proud of her family and is survived by her brother Kenneth Jackson and his wife Eileen; sister Linda Jackson and partner Russell; her former husband Dr. Jerald Rice and partner Lorinda; her son Dr. Steven Rice and partner Janine; her son Dana Rice and wife Paula; her daughter Dr. Heather Rice; and her son Dr. Parrish Rice and wife Janet; she also loved many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

All are welcome to gather with Merry’s family and friends on Friday, June 11th from 5-7 pm at the Pickering and Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main St, Upton; Meredith’s burial service will be private.
