Nancy B. Beatty

Nancy Baldwin Beatty of Upton passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Friday, July 23, 2021, at the age of 101.   Nancy was for decades the beloved matriarch of her family and friends, living in her treasured family homestead.   

She was predeceased by her husband, Royce Edwards Beatty, of 59 years who she met in third grade.  Throughout her life she was close to two siblings, Barbara Baker of Upton and Richard Baldwin of West Chester, PA, who predeceased her.  

She leaves sons Royce Beatty of Upton and Richard Beatty and his wife Kathleen of Lakeville, Connecticut.  She leaves two precious grandchildren, Lauren Beatty and Kyle Beatty and his wife Lindsay.  She also leaves a great grandchild, Anders Beatty, born to Lindsay and Kyle last fall.   She leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.

Nancy was warm, engaging and kind.   She thrived collaborating with others on tasks and organizations.  She and husband Royce devoted many years of service to Old Sturbridge Village, where Nancy was a Trustee.   She helped revitalize the Upton Women’s Club as President, and she was President of the Massachusetts Federation of Women’s Club.   As President of the Upton Historical Society, she led the development of a history of the town, which was published as Upton’s Heritage, by Donald Blake Johnson, 1984.   She was active in and a Regent of DAR at the Deborah Wheelock Chapter in Uxbridge.

For more than forty years Nancy organized a monthly gathering of women at her homestead.    Called the antiquers, Nancy picked a topic and led a discussion before lunch.   She treasured these friends and their sessions, which continued in later years.

Nancy will be greatly missed.  

Her funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 29, in the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main St. Upton. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton.
