Richard C. Voss

Richard C. Voss, age 87, of Upton passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022, peacefully at home.

Rick was born November 4, 1934 at Milford Hospital to the late Clarence and Kathryn (Shears) Voss. Raised in Northbridge and Upton, he grew up working on his uncles’ farm, River Bend, in Uxbridge. Long hours in the hayloft nurtured a strong work ethic and an immunity to the heat, both of which would aid him in his future adventures. Rick’s time working on the family farm also gave him a deep love and respect for all animals. 

Richard attended Upton Public Schools until he joined the military in 1955. He served with the US Army 11th Airborne Division stationed in Germany. After his military service, he stayed abroad and traveled extensively. Rick traveled throughout the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. His travels brought him to Libya where he met his stunning British wife, Carolyn. From Libya, he and Carolyn spent five years in West Africa, but eventually returned to the United States and settled in Upton.

Rick had few hobbies, but mowing his lawn and spending time with his family and close friends were top priorities. He was known for his story-telling abilities, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He also had a deep passion for all motorsports which was reflected in his career choice. He worked for Imported Cars of Worcester for several years, and then for Ron Bouchard’s Acura of Auburn for 30 more.

Rick is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn, their daughter Christina Dorman and her husband, Eric, of Upton, and his treasured grandchildren, Anna and Andrew.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 3rd from 5 to 7 PM in The Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton.

A celebration of life will take place on Friday, March 4th at 10 AM in the funeral home.  Burial will take place privately at Lakeview Cemetery, Upton, at a later date.
